Florian Wurtz is set to leave the Bundesliga for Liverpool FC in a record-breaking transfer. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen has agreed to a transfer fee of around €150 million, making him the most expensive Bundesliga player to date. Following a successful medical check, Liverpool confirmed the signing of Wurtz, who will reportedly earn between €20 and €22 million per year. His transfer beats the previous record set by Ousmane Dembele’s move from Borussia Dortmund to FC Barcelona for €135 million in 2018. Wurtz developed his skills at Cologne’s youth academy and later moved to Leverkusen in 2020 at the age of 16. He played a crucial role in securing Leverkusen’s first-ever Bundesliga title in 2024, as well as their second consecutive German Cup. Known for his exceptional ball control and vision, Wurtz’s career trajectory has been impressive, particularly considering his return from an ACL injury in 2022 which sidelined him for much of the year. Despite his attacking prowess, Wurtz also contributes significantly to his team’s defense, often running more than 10 kilometers per match and exceling in confrontations against opponents. His jersey number 10, worn in honor of football legends like Pele and Diego Maradona, carries a special personal significance for Wurtz as the tenth of ten siblings. Liverpool fans are eagerly anticipating his contributions to the team.
