The Aukus pact, which aims to deter Chinese aggression in the Indo-Pacific region, has received strong support from Republican and Democrat lawmakers in the US. They have urged the US to recommit to the nuclear submarine deal with Australia and the UK. The Trump administration had announced a 30-day review of the Aukus agreement in May. The lawmakers emphasized the strategic importance of the pact for both the Aukus nations and the Indo-Pacific region, citing statements made by former defense secretary Lloyd Austin. They also highlighted progress made so far, including Congress passing necessary legislation and Australia paying $500m as initial funding for the pact.
