Jeffer Bezos’ nuptial celebration location in Venice was relocated following uprising protests – DW – 06/25/2025

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has changed the location of his wedding party with former TV presenter Lauren Sanchez due to protests against the event. Initially scheduled to be held in Venice for the weekend, the wedding party has been moved to a more secluded area of the lagoon city. The wedding, which is expected to be a star-studded event, will now take place at the Arsenale, an art fair exhibition space. This decision was made for security reasons, as the previous venue was a popular nightlife area in Cannaregio’s Scuola Grande di Santa Maria della Misericordia. The event has been dubbed “the wedding of the century” with celebrities such as US President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, and her husband Jared Kushner, in attendance.

Protesters have been rallying against the wedding ceremony, arguing that it will transform the city into a private amusement park for the rich. The exact date and location of the wedding have been kept a secret for security reasons. The wedding and parties associated with it are expected to cost €40 to €48 million, according to Luca Zaia, president of the Veneto region that includes Venice. Despite the protests, Zaia defended the wedding and argued that it will bring revenue to local businesses. Bezos is also set to make charity donations, including €1 million to Corila, an academic consortium that studies Venice’s lagoon ecosystem.
