Donald Trump has spoken out regarding his ally Benjamin Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial, calling it a “witch hunt” and advocating for its cancellation.
On Wednesday night, Trump posted on social media, stating that he and Netanyahu fought together against a formidable enemy, Iran, and that Netanyahu showed unwavering support for Israel. He emphasized Netanyahu’s dedication to the country.
Trump, who has faced numerous criminal charges and convictions he deems politically motivated, expressed concern about Netanyahu being summoned to court and even suggested a pardon for him, saying the U.S. will save Netanyahu just as it saved Israel.
Netanyahu, who in December became the first Israeli prime minister to stand trial for corruption, vehemently denies the allegations, dismissing them as politically motivated attacks against him.
He faces charges of fraud, breach of trust, and bribery across three separate cases, including allegations of accepting expensive gifts from a billionaire producer and favoring businessmen in exchange for media support.
Netanyahu’s trial has experienced multiple delays since it started in May 2020, with the prime minister requesting postponements due to conflicts, including the war in Gaza and a conflict in Lebanon. It remains unclear when the next hearing will be scheduled.
