Accusations of Assault: Son of Norwegian Princess Faces Charges

The son of Norway’s crown princess, Marius Borg Hoiby, was charged with multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, and bodily harm following a ten-month investigation.

Hoiby, 28, is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon. He has been arrested multiple times in 2024 on allegations of rape and preliminary charges of bodily harm.

Police investigating multiple allegations

The number of victims involved in the investigation is described by Oslo Police Attorney Andreas Kruszewski as being in the “double-digit” range.

Kruszewski confirmed at a news conference that the charges include one case of rape with intercourse, two cases of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexual assault, and two cases of bodily harm.

Evidence was gathered from text messages, police searches, and witness testimonies.

In an email, Hoiby’s defense attorney, Petar Sekulic, stated that while Hoiby takes the accusations seriously, he does not acknowledge wrongdoing in most cases, especially those involving sexual abuse and violence.

Background on Hoiby

Hoiby is the child of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship and has no formal title or public role within the royal family.

After initial allegations of bodily harm, Hoiby admitted to acts of violence towards his partner while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. He acknowledged psychological issues and a history of drug abuse.
