Two individuals killed in Idaho during brush fire response

Two individuals were tragically killed in a mountain community in Idaho while responding to a wildfire, according to authorities. The incident occurred near the city of Coeur d’Alene, where law enforcement is currently under attack from an active shooter armed with a high-powered rifle. Sheriff Robert Norris of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office stated that officers are actively coming under sniper fire from various directions, with residents advised to steer clear of Canfield Mountain. The FBI is enroute to provide tactical support. Governor Brad Little reported that multiple firefighters were targeted during the attack, calling it a “heinous direct assault” and urging Idahoans to pray for the victims and their families. As the situation unfolds, there is uncertainty regarding the number of shooters and casualties involved. Sheriff Norris is hopeful for a clear opportunity to neutralize the shooter, who has not shown any signs of wanting to surrender. The brush fire remains active amidst the shooting. Local Fire Chief Pat Riley expressed his devastation over the attack. The Kootenai County Emergency Management Office has issued an alert advising people to avoid the area around Canfield Mountain Trailhead and Nettleton Gulch Road.
