Costa Rica’s Supreme Court aims to revoke the president’s immunity in a corruption investigation.

The Supreme Court of Costa Rica has requested Congress to remove the immunity of President Rodrigo Chaves, paving the way for a trial on corruption charges. The prosecutors claim that Chaves instructed a company hired by the presidency to make a $32,000 payment to a former advisor, marking a significant conflict between the conservative leader and the judiciary. This is the first time such a request has been made against a sitting president in the country.
