Omanian and Egyptian FMs Call on Washington and Tehran to Restart Talks

Oman’s Foreign Minister met with his Egyptian counterpart in Cairo on Tuesday for discussions regarding regional tensions following the recent Israel-Iran war that lasted 12 days.

Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi emphasized the need for Washington and Tehran to secure the ceasefire and restart negotiations.

“I urge the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran to avoid setting impossible conditions for resuming negotiations,” al-Busaidi stated at a joint press conference in the Egyptian capital. “There must be conditions that enable a feasible, logical, and lasting return to negotiations.”

The ministers also addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

“The situation is very intricate, and the Israeli side should make its decisions promptly,” Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, commented to reporters. “There is a promising opportunity for a 60-day ceasefire, followed by ongoing negotiations to maintain the cessation of hostilities.”

Abdelatty stated that Egypt is prepared to host an international conference on Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction as soon as a ceasefire is achieved. Both officials reaffirmed their opposition to the displacement of Palestinians and pledged to increase their efforts to garner support for an Arab plan to reconstruct the region and advocate for a two-state solution to the crisis.
