US Republicans in the House of Representatives made progress but failed to pass President Donald Trump’s tax-cut and spending bill on Tuesday. President Trump lashed out on his social media platform, criticizing the delay and urging Republicans to support the bill. Despite a procedural vote passing with a majority, a preliminary measure was stalled due to opposition from Republican defectors. The bill, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” includes tax breaks, increased defense and immigration enforcement spending, and cuts to health care and social services. The bill passed the Senate after a tie-breaking vote from Vice President JD Vance and is seen as a way to finance Trump’s campaign promises. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill will include $4.5 trillion in tax cuts and increase the national debt by $3.3 trillion. The bill also includes controversial changes to Medicaid, which will lead to 12 million people losing access to health insurance over the next decade.
