The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) placed 139 employees on administrative leave after they signed a declaration expressing dissent about the agency’s policies. The EPA accused these employees of unlawfully undermining the Trump administration’s agenda. The employees had written in a letter that the EPA is not fulfilling its mission to protect human health and the environment. The EPA has a zero-tolerance policy for career bureaucrats unlawfully undermining the administration’s agenda. Over 170 EPA employees signed the document, with many others signing anonymously in fear of retaliation. Scientists at the National Institutes of Health made a similar move earlier in June, but it is not known if anyone at the NIH faced similar administrative leave.
