Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, announces the creation of a new political party in the United States following a disagreement with President Donald Trump over the controversial ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’.
Musk announced the formation of the “America Party” on X, stating his intention to challenge the United States’ two-party system and give back the freedom to the American people. He cited the results of a poll from Independence Day, where more than 1.2 million respondents supported the idea of breaking free from the current two-party system.
Musk claims that when it comes to government waste and corruption, the US functions as a one-party system, rather than a democracy. He intends for the America Party to restore the freedom of the American people and address issues such as government waste.
Musk had previously been a major campaign financier for Trump during the 2024 election and held a position in the Department of Government Efficiency. However, tensions between the two have escalated over disagreements regarding the new budget law, with Musk stating that it would lead to the bankruptcy of the US.
The potential impact of the America Party on future elections remains uncertain. Musk has outlined a plan to strategically target vulnerable US House and Senate seats, aiming to become the deciding vote on key legislation. Despite Musk’s substantial resources, breaking the Republican-Democratic duopoly in US politics, which has dominated for over 160 years, will be a challenging task. President Trump’s approval ratings have generally remained stable, despite his often divisive policies.
