CCTV footage presented to jurors captures brothers accused of attacking police officers at Manchester airport | UK news

CCTV footage showing the alleged assault of three police officers at Manchester airport has been presented to a jury at Liverpool Crown Court. The defendants, Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, and his brother Muhammad Amaad, 26, are accused of violence toward the officers after being called to a Starbucks cafe in Terminal 2’s arrivals on July 23 last year. The incident involved Amaaz allegedly head-butting a customer.

Within minutes of the incident, three officers approached the Amaaz brothers at the car park’s pay station. These officers were PC Zachary Marsden and PC Ellie Cook, both armed, and the unarmed PC Lydia Ward. On Monday, the jury viewed airport camera footage depicting a high level of violence according to prosecutors. The Amaaz brothers are alleged to have resisted arrest and attack the officers with force.

Jurors witnessed Amaaz supposedly throwing punches, knocking PC Ward to the ground, and kicking PC Marsden while also elbowing firearms officer PC Cook. Before landing a punch, Amaaz had taken hold of Officer Marsden, who eventually had to use his Taser device. Even while on the ground, Amaaz is accused of attempting to attack the officers further. Body-worn camera footage from the officers has also been shown to demonstrate the alleged assaults.

Amaaz is accused of assaulting PC Marsden and PC Ward, causing physical harm, as well as assaulting PC Cook and a member of the public, Abdulkareem Ismaeil, at Starbucks. Amaad, 26, is accused of assaulting PC Marsden causing actual bodily harm. Both brothers deny the allegations.

PC Marsden testified, explaining his intention to control Amaaz and prevent his escape. He tried to apprehend Amaaz by grabbing his arm, but received immediate resistance. Marsden did not feel it was necessary to inform Amaaz that he was a police officer, given that he was in full uniform.
