The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), supported by the U.S. and Israel, has distributed 70 million meals to residents of Gaza since May. However, the organization’s aid delivery system is facing consistent attacks from Hamas and some unexpected sources, including leading world aid organizations.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini has criticized GHF, calling for its dissolution, stating that it provides nothing but starvation and gunfire to Palestinians.
Earlier this month, Lazzarini described GHF as an “abomination”. In an open letter, 230 NGOs, including Amnesty International, Oxfam International, the Norwegian Refugee Council, and Save the Children, criticized GHF while urging a return to the U.N.-led aid system.
Despite these criticisms, GHF maintains that it has demonstrated the possibility of providing aid without relying on what it describes as the old corrupt billion-dollar aid industry led by UN agencies and NGOs allied with Hamas.
