The exceptional Gout Gout’s journey continues with another intense performance, showcasing his European track expertise in Monaco. Participating in an invitation-only 200 meters event at the renowned Diamond League meeting in the Louis II Stadium, the teenage wonder demonstrated his superior speed, achieving victory in 20.10 seconds against a headwind.
Despite his recent record-breaking performance in Ostrava, where he registered an Australian record of 20.02 seconds, Gout’s progress was slightly hindered by the wind conditions on this occasion. Nevertheless, he was pleased with his victory and maintaining his European unbeaten streak, outpacing competitors Naeem Jack and Busang Collen Kebinatshipi.
Gout attributes his success to his top-speed advantage, emphasizing his focus on maintaining a consistent pace throughout the race. With a return to school imminent, the young athlete remains determined to prepare for the senior world championships in Japan later in the year.
Meanwhile, at the high-profile Diamond League meeting, Gout is relishing the experience, choosing not to compete in the main race. He and other Australian athletes, such as Jess Hull and Peter Bol, have made significant strides by breaking national records in their respective events.
Jess Hull achieved third place in the women’s 1000m, improving the previous national record by two seconds, while Bol secured fourth place in one of the fastest 800m races, setting a new Australian record. Both athletes express their satisfaction with their performances and resilience in the face of challenges.
