The oldest marathon runner Fauja Singh, who was reportedly 114 years old, was killed in a car accident in his village in Punjab, India. Singh, who lived in Ilford, east London, was struck while crossing the road in Beas Pind, near Jalandhar. His running club, Sikhs in the City, in Ilford, has confirmed his death and plans to hold events to honor his life. His coach, Harmander Singh, expressed deep sadness, calling him an “icon of humanity” and a “powerhouse of positivity”. Singh made a name for himself by breaking marathon records in different age groups, inspiring many athletes. He took up running at age 89 in 2000 and completed several marathons. He is believed to have become the first centenarian to run a marathon on October 16, 2011. British politicians and others paid tribute to his legacy, citing his discipline, humility, and resilience.
