European Nations Issue Warning to Iran: UN Sanctions Imminent in Absence of Progress on Nuclear Agreement

Leaders from top European countries have alerted Iran that they are ready to activate the UN “snapback” mechanism, which would re-establish global sanctions, should Iran not show meaningful advancement towards restarting the nuclear agreement by the close of summer. During dialogues with Iran’s foreign minister, representatives from the UK, France, Germany, and the EU stressed the critical importance of re-engaging in diplomatic efforts against the backdrop of escalated tensions after strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities by Israel and the US in June.
