The United States designated The Resistance Front (TRF) a “foreign terrorist organization” following the attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 people in April. The attack, initially claimed by TRF, took place in the resort town of Pahalgam and also included several assaults on Indian security forces. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that TRF is an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and has taken credit for the attacks. TRF initially claimed responsibility but later denied involvement. The nationalist government of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi blamed Pakistan for the attack and accused it of supporting militant groups. LeT carried out the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which killed over 160 people. Both India’s military rule and human rights abuses in Kashmir have been sources of discontent. Hindu nationalists have sought greater control over Kashmir. India and Pakistan exchanged blows before agreeing to a truce, with President Trump claiming credit for helping broker it, though India denies US mediation.
