In the southern region of Syria, specifically Sweida National hospital, Bahaa* persevered through an influx of patients, each carrying gunshot wounds and injuries from shrapnel. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported a staggering 516 civilians and fighters lost in four days of conflict within the Druze-majority province. Among the victims, at least 86 Druze civilians were executed by government forces and allied militias, with three Bedouins killed by Druze fighters. The violence highlighted deep sectarian divides, with President Ahmad al-Sharaa pledging to protect minority groups. However, distrust among Syria’s minorities remains high, even as the military denies involvement in civilian killings. Social media showed evidence of sectarian hatred, with videos depicting violence against Druze and Bedouins. Despite a ceasefire, the region experiences ongoing violence and displacement. Bahaa, a surgeon, questions the point of these endless killings after years of conflict.
