Over 1,350 flights have already been cancelled or affected, including those from U.S. cities. Ryanair has responded by offering rescue flights between Dublin and London Stansted to assist passengers left stranded due to the closure.
Lufthansa, on the other hand, has cancelled all flights in and out of Heathrow. Flights arriving from Tokyo, Hong Kong, and other cities have been redirected or turned back. Qantas has had to reroute its flights to Paris. Although the fire is now contained, the disruption is expected to ongoing for several days, with its impact likened to significant events such as 9/11 or the Icelandic volcano eruption in 2010.
Thousands of travelers are currently stranded, and investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, with no evidence of intentional wrongdoing.
Heathrow’s closure has had far-reaching consequences for global aviation, resulting in numerous flight cancellations and delays.
