Lagos Archdiocese hosts mass in memory of Pope Francis

The Lagos Archdiocese Catholics, under Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins, conducted a special mass in mourning for Pope Francis on Wednesday.

In a ceremony marked by prayer, song, and a condolence book, the congregation paid tribute to the late pontiff.

It was also an opportunity to honor the legacy of good deeds left by Pope Francis.

Reverend Father Melvis Mayaki reflected on the Pope, stating: “Throughout his time in office, he highlighted the importance of mercy, insisting that God is merciful.”

As a symbol of his leadership and reverence for the Pope’s memory, Archbishop Martins headed the procession of the mass.

“We ask for the soul of the departed. Let’s also ask that God grants us another wise and holy leader to guide us”.

Pope Francis, aged 88, passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, due to complications after a stroke.

He will be remembered for his humility, the centrality of God’s mercy in his teachings, and his dedication to social justice.
