During his three-day visit, Macron will participate in a trilateral summit with King Abdullah II of Jordan, set to take place on Monday.
Discussions at the summit will focus on the ongoing situation in Gaza amid Israel’s intensified military operations following the failed ceasefire with Hamas.
Macron will also travel to the Egyptian port of el-Arish, located 50 kilometers west of the Gaza Strip, to meet with humanitarian workers stationed there.
On Monday, both leaders criticized the Israeli aggression in Gaza and emphasized the importance of finding a peaceful resolution to end the conflict.
Israel’s goal is to secure the release of hostages by expanding its control over the Gaza Strip.
Despite the political tensions, there was a moment of leisure on Sunday when al-Sisi accompanied Macron on a tour of Cairo’s historic Khan el-Khalili souk.
Local shop owners and residents enthusiastically cheered for the two leaders, who were surrounded by tight security as they walked through the market and engaged with vendors and had their photos taken.
Additionally, Macron visited the Grand Egyptian Museum, located near the Giza Pyramids, which holds over 100,000 ancient artifacts and is scheduled to officially open in July.
