NOAA anticipates a busy hurricane season ahead

This year’s Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be busier than usual due to warmer ocean temperatures. However, forecasters predict it won’t be as intense as in 2024, which was the third most costly season on record, marked by destructive storms Beryl, Helene, and Milton.

In the NOAA’s outlook for the hurricane season released on Thursday, there’s a 60% likelihood of an above-normal season, a 30% chance it could be near normal, and just a 10% probability of a quieter season.

Forecasters are projecting between 13 to 19 named storms, with 6 to 10 of these expected to strengthen into hurricanes. Within these, 3 to 5 hurricanes are predicted to reach major status, defined by sustained winds over 110 mph.
