Leaders from the Arab world have endorsed a comprehensive blueprint for the redevelopment of Gaza, initiated by Egypt alongside Palestine. Recognized now as an official proposal from the Arab League, the plan firmly opposes the forced relocation of Palestinians and lays out a strategy for the reconstruction of the devastated area.
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, bringed attention to the importance of this plan, declaring: “The plan offers a precise, feasible, and practical substitute to the proposal of relocating Palestinians. Crafted with Egypt’s help, and subsequently endorsed by the recent summit, it stands as an Arab consensus plan fully embraced by every Arab nation, society, and individual.
The initiative encompasses the removal of rubble, the restoration of critically needed services, and the acquisition of international funding through a mechanism facilitated by the World Bank. Additionally, it sets forth the vision for sustainable urban development, encompassing eco-friendly housing, zones for industrial growth, and crucial transportation ventures like a commercial harbor and airfield.
The plan extends beyond mere reconstruction with the intention to establish a fresh political and security paradigm in Gaza. Gheit elaborated, “The plan functions not only as a technical document but also as a blueprint for a new political and security landscape in Gaza.” He further emphasized that the political framework upholds Gaza’s legal identity as an integral part of a future Palestinian state, intertwined with the West Bank.
Egypt is set to host an international conference in collaboration with the United Nations to consolidate worldwide backing for the initiative. Additionally, the Arab League has petitioned the UN Security Council for the deployment of an international peacekeeping force in Gaza and the West Bank to bolster regional stability.
