At Gemelli hospital in Rome, Pope Francis, aged 88, has faced a challenging health situation over the past ten days as he fought against pneumonia and a complex lung infection. Recently, it has been disclosed by the Vatican that the Pope has also been identified as being in the preliminary stages of kidney failure. Despite this, he had a restful night and was able to join Sunday mass from his hospital room. Blood tests indicate that the kidney issue is currently being managed. Initially admitted on February 14th due to bronchitis, the condition escalated into pneumonia affecting both lungs. The concern over the Pope’s health is amplified by his past surgery where a portion of one lung was removed when he was younger. The Holy Father has had various health issues in recent years, including respiratory complications, mobility challenges, and surgery for a colon condition. Since 2021, this is his fourth hospital stay. Amid these trials, Pope Francis has received an outpouring of prayers and support from the global Catholic community of 1.4 billion followers.
