Zimbabwe aims to join BRICS and is waiting for a reply.

Zimbabwe has formally submitted its application to become a member of BRICS. The country’s Foreign Minister Amon Murwira made this announcement during his visit to Moscow on Thursday. Accompanying Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference, Murwira stressed Zimbabwe’s dedication to fulfilling the criteria for BRICS membership.

Murwira highlighted the significance of BRICS as a platform for economic cooperation, founded on mutual respect and the sovereignty of nations. “The BRICS group represents an economic cooperation system that respects these fundamental principles of human interaction and development, and joining it is in Zimbabwe’s best interest,” he remarked.

He also mentioned that Zimbabwe is working to align with the standards of the BRICS group and is waiting for a consensus-based response from its members.

The BRICS group, which currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has been consistently increasing its global impact, with a number of countries showing interest in membership. Zimbabwe’s application demonstrates its strategy to strengthen economic ties and form new international partnerships within the group.
