The overpopulation of elephants has been a concern in Zimbabwe. The government plans to cull 50 elephants to control the population and reduce pressure on limited resources. The meat will be provided to local communities. Although other methods, such as relocation and GPS tracking, were previously used to manage elephant numbers, a similarly large culling occurred last year as a result of a food shortage. For now, the plan is to cull 50 elephants, but the number remains subject to change.
