US President Donald Trump announced a “kinetic” military strike on a small boat reportedly involved in smuggling drugs out of Venezuela for the Tren de Aragua gang, claiming 11 people were killed.
Trump shared black-and-white footage of the bombing on Truth Social, which he claimed resulted in 11 “terrorists killed in action” with no harm to US forces.
He framed the action as a warning to those considering smuggling drugs into the United States, emphasizing the danger of such actions.
The bombing escalates tensions between the US and the Venezuelan government, with Trump accusing President Nicolas Maduro of orchestrating criminal activities—a claim Maduro denies.
Trump unexpectedly announced the strike during a news conference, where he was also launching the new headquarters for US Space Command.
The strike is the first known military action against alleged drug smugglers since increased military presence in the Caribbean last month.
The location remains unclear, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating the strike happened in the “southern Caribbean.” According to Reuters, eight US vessels and one nuclear-powered submarine are in the region or soon will be.
Trump linked the people targeted to the Tren de Aragua gang, stating they were “narcoterrorists” at sea in international waters.

Maduro previously threatened Venezuela would become a “republic in arms” if attacked, accusing the US of seeking regime change through military threats.
