Authorities Razed Homes Belonging to Suspected Kashmir Attack Perpetrators | Insurgency Updates

Indian-administered Kashmir has witnessed the demolition of two homes belonging to men suspected of being responsible for the region’s deadliest attack on civilians in nearly two decades. According to the police, the attackers are believed to be associated with The Resistance Front (TRF), a faction of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Pakistan, however, denies these allegations.

In response to this incident, a massive manhunt has been launched by Indian security forces to apprehend those accountable for the attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 men in Pahalgam on Tuesday. Wanted posters with sketches of three suspects have been released by the authorities, including Adil Hussain Thokar, a suspected Kashmiri rebel, and two Pakistani citizens identified as Ali Bhai and Hashim Musa. They are also on the lookout for another suspected rebel named Ashif Sheikh.

Following the attack, family members of the suspected rebels have also been detained by the police for questioning. Yasmeena, the sister of Ashif Sheikh, narrated how their house in the southern Tral area of Kashmir was cordoned off by soldiers late Thursday night. She witnessed a soldier climbing over the wall and, shortly after, the house was reduced to rubble in a powerful explosion, fortunately leaving no one injured as they were not present at the time.

Similarly, soldiers demolished Thokar’s family home in the neighbouring Bijbehara area early Friday morning. These actions have been met with alarm among the local population.

According to a police officer speaking anonymously, both individuals have been involved with the TRF, an offshoot of the LeT, for around three to four years. They are said to have been involved in previous attacks on security forces and are considered wanted militants. In addition to their pursuit, the police have announced a two million rupee ($23,500) reward for any information that leads to their capture.
