Tamim Iqbal, a prominent former cricketer and TV commentator, experienced a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League match and was promptly taken to the hospital.
aged 36, Tamim was leading his team, Mohammedan Sporting Club, in a 50-over match of the Dhaka Premier League on Monday.
He was involved in the coin toss at the beginning but later reported chest discomfort. After receiving initial medical attention on the field, he was then transferred to a nearby hospital.
Debashis Chowdhury, a medical officer at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), reported to AFP that Tamim’s heart function had shown improvement.
Tariqul Islam, a team official, confirmed that Tamim is receiving treatment at a hospital in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, and called for prayers for his speedy recovery.
The BCB postponed its scheduled meeting following Tamim’s sudden health issue, with several board members visiting him in the hospital.
Tamim Iqbal has a distinguished career, having played in 391 international matches between 2007 and 2023.
With over 15,000 runs in international cricket, he is the only Bangladeshi batsman to have scored centuries in all three formats of the game.
