Blaze ‘seriously damages’ Tomorrowland stage in Belgium prior to Friday’s opening | Arts and Culture News

The Tomorrowland festival, an annual event held in Boom, Belgium, is set to draw approximately 100,000 attendees, with many planning to camp on site. However, a significant setback has occurred just two days before the festival’s scheduled opening. A major fire has engulfed the festival’s main stage, causing severe damage. Festival organizers have confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident and that the fire seems to have been accidental. Antwerp prosecutors have launched an investigation as several hundred firefighters battled to control the flames.

The festival, which is set to begin on Friday, is expected to run over two weekends this year. Despite the damage to the Mainstage, organizers have emphasized their focus on finding solutions to ensure the event’s success and the opening of the campground as initially planned. Various electronic music stars and DJs, including David Guetta and Charlotte de Witte, were scheduled to perform across different stages, with two-thirds of the events planned for the now-damaged Mainstage and the Freedom Stage.

Since its inception 20 years ago by two Belgian brothers, Tomorrowland has become a globally recognized event, leading to the establishment of additional Tomorrowland festivals in other locations, including a winter version in France and another in Brazil.
