The release of alleged text messages by authorities, supposedly from the suspect Tyler Robinson in the Charlie Kirk assassination case, has triggered a wave of conspiracy theories. Following the US state of Utah’s prosecution publication of texts between 22-year-old Robinson and his romantic partner, a multitude of social media users, including numerous high-profile influencers, cast doubt on the texts’ authenticity. Claims of these texts being fabricated by authorities have surfaced, with many suggesting that the language and tone did not seem to match Robinson’s profile. Interestingly, the conspiracy theories found unity among figures from different political spectrums, in a time of sharp political division. Notably, Utah Governor Spencer Cox has stated that Robinson’s partner, who is transitioning gender, had no advance knowledge of the crime and has been cooperating with authorities. Despite Governor Cox’s statement and the evidence presented by the prosecution, speculation and skepticism about the role of Robinson’s partner and the authenticity of the text messages seem to persist, indicating a pervasive distrust in official narratives and an inclination towards conspiracy theories in high-profile cases.
