Deadly Sleeping Bus Collision in Vietnam Claims Ten Lives, Leaves Twelve Injured

Phạm Minh Chính, the Prime Minister of Vietnam, has demanded a thorough investigation into a recent road accident that resulted in the deaths of ten people, including two children, in central Vietnam. This tragic incident occurred just a week after a boat disaster in Ha Long Bay claimed the lives of dozens, indicating a concerning trend in the country’s safety record. The overnight tour bus was traveling from Hanoi to Da Nang when it swerved off a national highway in the province of Ha Tinh, crashing and overturning, according to authorities. This accident not only took the lives of its passengers but also left another twelve individuals injured, receiving treatment at a hospital for severe injuries. The crash involved a bus carrying domestic tourists visiting Da Nang for leisure, turning this once-popular destination into the center of two successive mishaps. A survivor of the crash described the severity of the accident, recounting the difficulty in moving due to significant injuries. The Prime Minister’s call for an investigation reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the spate of traffic-related fatalities in Vietnam, where, according to the National Statistics Office, road crashes claimed over 5,000 lives in the first half of the year, down slightly from the previous year’s figures. Additionally, concern over maritime safety has risen following the unfortunate capsizing of a tourist boat in Ha Long Bay during Typhoon Wipha, the worst such incident in the nation’s history, leaving 38 people dead and only ten survivors. Despite ongoing search efforts, one passenger remains unaccounted for, highlighting the urgency for comprehensive safety measures in both land and sea travel in Vietnam.
