Demonstrations in Los Angeles continue over migrant detentions as activists rally in opposition | News on Protests

Federal agents have fired flashbangs and tear gas at angry crowds in Los Angeles, who are protesting against the recent arrest of numerous migrants. The Department for Homeland Security reported that out of the 118 arrested in ICE operations in Los Angeles this week, five were gang members. The standoff took place in the suburb of Paramount, where demonstrators gathered outside a federal facility used by agents. On Friday, immigration agents conducted high-profile workplace raids across Los Angeles, leading to angry crowds and hourly standoffs. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass acknowledged the fear felt by some residents and emphasized the right to peaceful protest while condemning violence and destruction. Mayor Bass said those responsible will be held accountable. The FBI Deputy Director, Dan Bongino, announced multiple arrests made after Friday’s clashes, stating that law and order would prevail. The White House has strongly condemned the protests, labeling them as an insurrection against the laws and sovereignty of the United States.
