Israeli military claims it shelled locations in Syria in response to a dual launch of projectiles.
According to SANA, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denounced an Israeli assault on the Syrian province of Deraa, claiming it led to “considerable human and material loss”.
Following reports of two projectiles launched from Syria towards Israel on Tuesday, the Israeli military responded. These projectiles arrived in open regions of the Israel-occupied Golan Heights, though the Syrian Foreign Ministry noted that these claims are “unverified”.
The ministry insisted that Syria does not and will not pose any threats to regional parties.
It is unclear who was behind the projectiles.
“We suspect several parties may be aiming to destabilize the region to meet their own goals,” the ministry added.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz blamed Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa for the projectiles.
“We hold the President of Syria directly responsible for any threats and attacks on the State of Israel; a full response will follow,” said Katz.
Recently, indirect talks have been held between Syria and Israel to reduce tensions in a significant move in the relations of countries that have been adversaries in the Middle East for decades.
Some Arab and Palestinian media outlets attributed responsibility to a lesser-known group, the Muhammad Deif Brigades, named after the Hamas military leader killed in an Israeli strike in 2024.

In response to the projectiles targeting Israel, the Israeli army launched artillery fire into southern Syria.
Residents stated that Israeli mortars were striking the Wadi Yarmouk area, near Deraa province’s border with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
The region has seen increased tension recently, including alleged Israeli military incursions into nearby villages, where farmers have reportedly been banned from planting their crops.
Israel has been conducting an aerial bombardment campaign destroying much of the military infrastructure in Syria. It has occupied the Golan Heights since the 1967 Arab-Israeli War and seized more territory after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s ousting in December, citing concerns over the new regime’s past.
At the same time as Israel reported missiles from Syria, the Israeli military intercepted a missile from Yemen.
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group claimed responsibility for targeting Israel’s Jaffa with a ballistic missile. They say their attacks are in support of Palestinians during the Israeli-Gaza conflict.
