The shooter, wielding an AR-style rifle, opened fire in a skyscraper at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.
The incident occurred around 6pm local time (22:00 GMT) on Monday at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, with police arriving promptly, local media reported.
The suspected shooter, tentatively identified as a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas, was also found dead at the scene, believed to be from a self-inflicted injury, CNN reported.
The gunman was reportedly wearing a bullet-resistant vest and armed with an AR-style rifle, having barricaded himself inside the building, possibly on the 32nd floor.
CNN confirmed that police have a photo of the suspect entering the building with the rifle. Preliminary checks did not indicate a significant criminal history, as cited by officials.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated the situation has been “contained” with the “lone shooter neutralized”.
