In Islamabad, Pakistan, four Afghan refugee sisters – Yasemin, Zakia, Shukriya, and Uzra – continue their passion for music despite facing uncertainty about their futures. Their dreams to resettle in the US were paused by Donald Trump’s executive orders and now face the threat of deportation back to Afghanistan due to Pakistan’s plan to send Afghan nationals back to their home country by June 30. The girls, who learned to play the guitar at a music school founded by Lanny Cordola in Kabul, are trying to keep their hopes alive, supported by Cordola and their music. They also recently recorded a rendition of Sia’s “Unstoppable,” receiving a supportive message from the singer herself. But with their trovies for the US intercepted and Pakistan’s looming deadline, their future hangs on the possibility of finding safety and continuing their musical journey.
