Israeli attacks across Gaza overnight have resulted in the deaths of numerous Palestinians, including members of a single family. These strikes targeted a displacement camp that Israel had declared a “humanitarian” zone, as well as tents housing displaced people in Khan Younis. Emergency teams were dispatched to the scene of the incident.
Since Israel began carrying out large-scale strikes on March 18, at least 1,163 individuals have lost their lives in Gaza. According to the Ministry of Health in the region, the latest tally includes nearly 100 fatalities within the past 24 hours, plus three more bodies from earlier strikes. This brings the overall death toll to 50,423 since the start of the conflict on October 7, 2023.
The Israeli army has instructed residents of the Shujayea area and neighborhoods such as al-Jadida, al-Turkman, Tasbeeh, and eastern Zeitoun to evacuate their homes. Avichay Adraee, a spokesperson for the Israeli army, stated that their operations aim to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and advised residents to immediately leave for designated shelters in western Gaza City. However, it is unclear what exactly these “known shelters” refer to, as previous shelter designations by Adraee were later targeted by the Israeli military during enforced evacuation orders.
The United Nations’ humanitarian agency reported in March that over 142,000 individuals have been displaced following Israel’s resumption of its military campaign in Gaza on March 18, which violates a fragile January ceasefire.
