Gaza’s Eid in Shadow: Celebration During Bombings, Food Scarcity in Ongoing Israel-Palestine Crisis

This Eid al-Fitr, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip found themselves with scarce food supplies and no reprieve from the ongoing Israeli bombardment. Despite celebrating the end of the month-long Ramadan fast, they faced a grim reality due to the relentless attacks.
Palestinians were seen praying outside destroyed mosques on this significant day, which typically brings families together for joyous gatherings and new clothing for children. However, for Gaza’s two million Palestinians, survival became the priority.
One local resident, Adel al-Shaer, expressed his sorrow, having lost loved ones, including his four young nephews to the violence. He lamented the loss of their students, schools, and future, portraying this Eid as a time of deep sadness.
Since March 18, a two-month ceasefire abruptly ended, causing a resurgence of intense bombing and ground operations by Israel. With no food, fuel, or humanitarian aid entering for four weeks, the situation has become dire.
Efforts to reinstate the truce are ongoing, with Arab mediators and Hamas accepting a new proposal from Egypt and Qatar, though its specifics remain unclear. Meanwhile, Israel has submitted its own proposal in coordination with the United States.
Regrettably, Israel’s actions in Gaza have resulted in over 50,000 Palestinian fatalities, as reported by the Health Ministry of the besieged enclave.
