Security forces have entered the Damascus suburb of Jaramana to restore peace after a disagreement at a checkpoint resulted in the death of a Syrian security officer and injury to another by a militia linked to Bashar al-Assad’s former regime. The decision to send forces came after local militias refused to hand over suspects involved in the Friday incident. The objective is to dismantle unauthorized checkpoints operated by armed groups accused of kidnappings, murders, and armed robbery.
