A man aged 70 has been fatally stabbed and four additional individuals have been injured in Haifa, a city in northern Israel, according to reports from authorities.
The public transportation hub was the site of the incident on Monday, with officials indicating the suspected assailant was neutralized.
“Emergency responders and paramedics confirmed the death of an elderly individual about 70 years old while also providing care and transportation for the injured,” as stated by Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service.
It was noted that a man and a woman, both around thirty years of age, as well as a 15-year-old boy, sustained critical injuries.
Prior reports from Eli Bin, the head of emergency service Magen David Adom, mentioned that four people were hurt as a result of the stabbing attack.
It remains unclear what led to the death of the assailant, whose identity has yet to be ascertained.
Images on social media depicted multiple emergency responders attending to the injured, who were observed lying down, while ambulances were present in the vicinity.
Any attacks perceived as connected to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are classified as “terrorist” by Israeli police.
The event transpires as the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas regarding Gaza’s truce stalled following the conclusion of its initial phase at the weekend.
On Sunday, after a disagreement with Hamas regarding the extension of the ceasefire, Israel prevented the entry of humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
