A group of survivors who endured abuse by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein gathered on the steps of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., advocating for greater transparency from the federal government. This event coincided with efforts by a bipartisan group of legislators pushing for the Epstein Files Transparency Act, legislation that would require the release of all non-classified information about the Epstein case, including records held by Attorney General Pam Bondi.
On Wednesday, these legislators stood alongside the survivors as they shared their personal stories of abuse, demanding action from Congress. Anouska De Georgiou, a model who has spoken publicly about her experiences being groomed and assaulted by Epstein, urged Congress to pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act and to provide support for survivors of sexual violence.
She emphasized that the only reason for opposing this bill would be to cover up wrongdoing, challenging lawmakers to choose between standing with survivors or with deceit that has shielded abusers for too long.
The survivors directly addressed President Donald Trump, asking him to take their demands seriously. One survivor, Haley Robson, a registered Republican, felt betrayed by Trump labeling the Epstein case a hoax, stressing that the situation was very real for her and other survivors. Chauntae Davies shared how Epstein boasted about his connections, including to Trump, using these to further his abusive practices.
Marina Lacerda, speaking publicly for the first time, detailed how Epstein promised her financial support only to manipulate and control her, forcing her out of school. She emphasized that the event was significant to her because it felt like the first time her voice was truly heard.
Despite the release of 33,295 pages of records from the federal investigation into Epstein by the US House of Representatives’ oversight committee, there seems to be limited new information. However, representatives like Ro Khanna, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Thomas Massie have pushed for the release of all documents.
The legislators and survivors, standing together at the Capitol, insisted that a society that allows powerful men to abuse vulnerable individuals with impunity is fundamentally flawed. They rejected any dismissal of the survivors’ stories as a hoax, arguing that these are real stories of real individuals who have been harmed and continue to seek justice. They emphasized that today was not just about unsealing records but standing with survivors against the powerful forces that have allowed such abuse to go unpunished.
