Ireland’s Prime Minister Michael Martin visited United States President Donald Trump at the White House, marking one of the latest by a European leader during Trump’s second term. The occasion centered on advance receptions for St Patrick’s Day, typically celebrated on March 17.
The meeting, although light-hearted with St Patrick’s Day festivities, was overshadowed by pressing global issues, including Russia’s involvement in Ukraine and the situation in Gaza.
Trump dominated the session in the Oval Office, engaging with media queries while Martin primarily observed. Martin commended the Irish-American alliance and historical ties between the U.S. and Ireland.
He also backed Trump’s role as a self-proclaimed peacemaker, as did other European leaders, like French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, when they met with Trump.
