The future of Ukraine is being debated by experts, as the United States starts to improve its relationship with Russia and alter its ties with Europe. In February, the administration of United States President Donald Trump changed the dynamics of US-Europe relations. European officials were criticized for being undemocratic and were told that their involvement in resolving the Ukraine war was not required.
At the same time, US and Russian officials started negotiations to bring an end to the war in Ukraine. Anatol Lieven, the director of the Eurasia Program at the Quincy Institute, argues that the European fears of Russian expansion are exaggerated.
However, Melinda Haring, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center, tells host Steve Clemons that it is dangerous for the US to reverse its stance on Ukraine and normalize relations with Russia.
