According to health authorities, over 62 individuals were killed in a single day, as the latest Israeli decrees force tens of thousands to relocate.
The ongoing Israeli bombardment across the Gaza Strip has resulted in the deaths of numerous Palestinians, including children. The Israeli military has issued a new wave of forced displacement orders throughout the besieged territory.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health stated in a Tuesday release that at least 62 people perished in Israeli assaults over the past 24-hour reporting period, with no fewer than 23 individuals, including seven children, losing their lives in overnight raids.
Journalist Hind Khoudary of Al Jazeera, reporting from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, described heavy artillery shelling and airstrikes across different regions of the Strip.
At least five Palestinians in southern Gaza were killed when two tents housing displaced individuals were hit in Khan Younis. An additional eight Palestinians lost their lives in an assault on a residential home in Bureij, central Gaza, with further attacks reported in the north, including Gaza City and Jabalia. In Beit Lahiya, also located in the north, an Israeli strike claimed at least three lives, including that of a three-year-old girl.
The ongoing Israeli attacks target civilian homes and areas where Palestinians seek shelter, as per Khoudary’s account.
After the most recent attacks, Hamas denounced the “horrific massacres” and called upon the international community to restrain Israel, who had previously broken a two-month truce with the group.
Since resuming its campaign against Gaza on March 18, the Israeli military has been responsible for 792 fatalities, including hundreds of children, and 1,663 injuries, as per the Health Ministry’s records. The blockade has also forced tens of thousands to flee once more, just weeks after returning after the ceasefire that began on January 19;
In its latest forced relocation directives, the Israeli military on Tuesday issued warnings of upcoming strikes in Jabalia, Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoon, and Shujayea in Gaza City, citing rocket fire from northern areas. Orders were also implemented for Khan Younis and Rafah in the south.
‘Children killed in their sleep’
Numerous aid organizations and UN agencies have repeatedly remarked on the absence of safe zones in Gaza. Israeli-designated “humanitarian zones” and shelters have been subject to continuous attack.
Save the Children, an international charity, on Tuesday referred to the resurgence of the conflict as a “death sentence” for children in besieged Gaza.
“Children are killed in their sleep in tents. They are being starved and attacked. The only means to protect children and families is through a definitive ceasefire,” it stated.
Approximately 50,000 people have lost their lives, and over 113,000 have been injured over nearly 18 months due to Israeli aggression, according to Health Ministry figures. Thousands more individuals are missing beneath the rubble of destroyed buildings and have been declared deceased. The Israeli conflict commenced following Hamas-led attacks in southern Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in an estimated 1,139 deaths and about 250 individuals held captive.
In justification of the renewed Israeli operation, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to pressure Hamas into releasing the remaining 59 Israelis held captive in Gaza. It is believed that approximately 24 of the captives are still alive.
Hamas asserts it wishes for Israel to adhere to the terms agreed upon when signing the January ceasefire, which would involve discussions on creating a lasting end to hostilities in exchange for the release of the remaining captives.
