Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua, a spokesperson for Hamas, was killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted his tent in northern Gaza.
Hamas spokesperson Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua died when Israeli fighter jets bombed his tent shelter in Jabalia’s northern area on Thursday morning, reported Al-Aqsa television and Shehab News Agency.
Multiple people, including children, suffered injuries from the attack, according to Hind Khoudary, an Al Jazeera correspondent in Gaza.
Khoudary stated that this incident was among several strikes by the Israeli military across the Strip in recent hours, including one on a home in the as-Saftawi region of Gaza City killing six members of the same family.
On March 18, Israel ended a brief two-month ceasefire and resumed its strong bombing campaign and ground operations in Gaza. Israel has been aiming to force Hamas into releasing the remaining captives held in the war-torn area.
Several senior Hamas figures have been killed in the past week. On Sunday, a strike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, killed five, among them Ismail Barhoum, Hamas’s head of finances and institutions.
Also on Sunday, Israeli jets struck tents housing displaced Palestinians in Khan Younis, killing Salah al-Bardaweel, a notable Hamas political leader and member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, along with his wife.
Both individuals were part of Hamas’s political office – a 20-member decision-making body, of whom 11 have died since the war started in late 2023, according to Reuters.

Hamas is still holding 59 of the approximately 250 captives seized during their October 7, 2023, operation in southern Israel.
At least 1,139 people died in Israel during the Hamas operation, and the Israeli military has now killed at least 50,183 Palestinians, and wounded 113,828 since its ground and air assault began on the Palestinian territory.
In the past ten days since Israel recommenced its attacks, statistics from Gaza’s Ministry of Health report that around 830 people have perished, with more than half of these victims being women and children.
The United Nations’ Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on Tuesday that 142,000 Palestinians have been displaced by the Israeli forces since March 18, intensifying the already dire humanitarian crisis due to Israel’s continuous restrictions on aid deliveries to Gaza.
The rising death toll in Gaza comes during a period of slow and troubled discussions for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Mediators – the United States, Qatar, and Egypt – have been unable to secure an extension to the initial stage of the three-phase agreement, which expired on March 1.
Hamas accuses Israel of deliberately undermining truce talks, which are intended to bring a permanent halt to hostilities.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims to have ordered Israeli forces to resume attacks on Gaza after Hamas dismissal of proposals for extending the truce.
On Wednesday, Netanyahu reiterated threats that Israel would seize territory in Gaza if Hamas does not release the remaining captives.
