Following the lead of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who has chosen to step down from his position, a significant division within the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is becoming more apparent, as reported by NHK.
After having initially dismissed reports in recent weeks that he would resign following a significant electoral loss his LDP-led coalition experienced in July – when it lost the majority in the upper house – Ishiba recently acknowledged the public reports. He insisted on ensuring the implementation of the trade agreement his country reached with the United States would continue as planned.
