Under the shadow of his legendary father, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr now faces a new kind of ring: legal battles over drug trafficking allegations.
July Cesar Chavez Jr, the son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, has been deported from the United States to Mexico to confront charges related to drug trafficking, as confirmed by Mexican authorities.
Handed over on Monday, Chavez Jr now finds himself in the grip of a prison in Sonora, northwest Mexico, as per the latest from the National Detention Registry.
Mexico City’s Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed his deportation, adding that an arrest warrant had been issued by Mexican authorities for Chavez Jr.
These charges include arms trafficking and organized crime, indicating a role as an enforcer for the notorious Sinaloa Cartel.
The attorney general’s office has opted not to comment on the case.
This man, who claimed boxing glory with a World Boxing Council middleweight title in 2011, later relinquished it the following year.
Yet, his pugilistic prowess has frequently been upstaged by controversies, including substance abuse violations.
