Poland’s presidential run-off election results are in, with conservative eurosceptic Karol Nawrocki expected to win, according to media reports. With all votes now counted, the Associated Press news agency states that Nawrocki secured 50.89 percent of the votes, while his liberal opponent, Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, received 49.11 percent. These results are also confirmed by the Polish news website, Onet. The Polish Electoral Commission has stated that all votes have been counted and official results were expected to be released on Monday morning. Nawrocki, a historian and amateur boxer, campaigned on a promise to prioritize economic and social policies for Poles over other nationalities, including refugees from neighboring Ukraine. Given that Poland’s parliament holds considerable power, the president’s ability to veto legislation, with the vote being closely watched by Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and the European Union, highlights its significance beyond Poland’s borders.
