Mayor of Los Angeles Implements Curfew Following Demonstrations Against Trump’s Immigration Policies – Updates on Protest Coverage

BREAKING,

Karen Bass announces a curfew for a specific area of downtown to take effect from 8pm local time (03:00 GMT Wednesday).

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has declared a curfew for a limited portion of downtown Los Angeles in response to protests against United States President Donald Trump’s immigration policy.
The curfew will be instituted within a 1 square mile (2.6sq km) section and will be in effect from 8pm Tuesday to 6am Wednesday, local time (03:00 GMT to 13:00 GMT Wednesday), as stated by Bass during a press briefing.
“Numerous businesses have faced damage or vandalism. Last night, 23 businesses were looted, and if you traverse downtown LA, the graffiti is widespread, causing substantial harm to businesses and properties,” Bass declared.
“Hence, my message is: If you do not reside or work in downtown LA, stay away from the area. Law enforcement will arrest those who violate the curfew, and legal action will be taken.”
Bass anticipates the curfew to continue for several days, but emphasizes that the restriction applies only to a small section of the city, which spans 502 square miles (1,300sq km).
“It is crucial to highlight this, not to underestimate the vandalism and violence that has occurred – it has been significant – because it is vitally important to recognize that what is happening in this 1 square mile is not representative of the entire city,” Bass stated.
“Some imagery of the protests and violence suggests a city-wide crisis, which is not the case.”
