McLaren has solidified its driver line-up for the long haul by extending a multiyear contract with young talent Oscar Piastri. The Australian driver, 23, officially committed his future to the British F1 team beyond the 2026 season. This decision comes ahead of his home Australian Grand Prix and follows a series of extended deals for top figures within the McLaren organization, such as CEO Zak Brown, team principal Andrea Stella, and Piastri’s teammate Lando Norris.
Norris, who finished second in the drivers’ standings last year to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, inked his contract extension in January 2024. Piastri, who made his F1 debut with McLaren in 2023, already had a contract through 2026. It’s unclear what additional years the contract encompasses.
McLaren celebrated Piastri’s commitment, praising his driving skillset, dedication, and compatibility with the team’s ethos. CEO Zak Brown commended Piastri, asserting that he is a crucial part of their successful return to prominence with the 2024 Constructors’ Championship win being a testament to the driver’s contribution. Piastri expressed his gratitude towards the team for their support and foresight, emphasizing his commitment to McLaren as he aims to compete for titles.
